On September 29, I received the good news that "There Is No Veil" had been through the printing process was now published.

When I went through the same process with my first book, "In the Presence of Angels," I had a short period of feeling depressed. I had worked so long and so hard on it that I found it difficult to part with it and give the book to the world.

With this book sequel, I had the advantage of Experience to speed up the process, and the writing and editing took only 18 months. I felt a pang of separational anxiety, but it quickly turned into the thrill of a job completed.

It will take at least a month for the online book sellers to get the information on "There Is No Veil" on their websites. There was a long “pause” while I waited for galley proofs having made a total of close to 200 separate personal edits. Even though there is a cost involved that doesn’t include those made by the publishing company during the formatting process, I can’t allow even the smallest error slip by. The printing formatting edits numbered almost as many as mine.

I recently received galley proof five. There were only a few changes to make, but I still have to wait for the results before I give permission to print. This process usually takes about two weeks, and in another two weeks I will receive my first order of books. I'm looking forward to giving it in a few weeks. Then I must wait again for that book to locate online with such companies as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders, and many more.

Having already seen photos of the cover, I know that I will be very pleased with the formatting of the pages.

Edits Galore...

This editing process is very time consuming and difficult because it includes everything from spelling and grammar to how the author wants the text to look on the page.

The first thing I had to do was approve the cover picture and all the print on the front and back. It took a couple of steps to accomplish this task, but it’s now done and the cover is beautiful.

Editing the galley proofs has taken much longer than I expected on this second book. Because I have very definite ideas about how my books should be formatted and because the Hawaiian vocabulary requires special treatment, the process takes longer than expected.

New Book Printing

On 05/19/09 I submitted the manuscript for THERE IS NO VEIL for publishing. In a week or so, my agent will be sending me a printed galley to format. My job in this process is to adjust the format until it's exactly what I want, error free, and looks professional on the page. I thoroughly enjoy this process and am looking forward to it, but the work takes many hours of careful editing before giving approval to print.

Also in progress is the formatting of the cover. This process for the front of the book includes the cover photo, title and subtitle, and author name. The back cover includes an author's photo and bio, heading, synopsis, quote, and in this case, a review of the first book by a published author.

Taking up even more time has been writing a 4,000 "character" summary for wholesale book sellers. These are the companies that post books online such as Amazon.com and B&N.com. Besides having to condense a 68,400 word manuscript into 4,000 characters, this summary must be an author's best writing in order to spark the imagination of the reader. The work is finally done.

Now I must sit back and wait form my publishing company to do their work, something that's not easy for me to do. If all goes well, I should finish formatting in a couple of weeks. Two weeks later I may have the printed copy in hand. I'm looking to the end of June to announce the books availability on line.

Writing Progress

As of this writing, I have finished the first draft of THERE IS NO VEIL. I have sent out copies of the manuscript to 12 people who have agreed to read and critique. My readers range from ages 38 to 92 and are of varying nationality, background, education, gender, religion, and social status. I am looking forward to studying their results. When I have made my critique corrections, I'll edit the entire piece one more time.

For this book, I have chosen not to use an individual editor.I learned a great deal from the editor of my first book, but I felt that many of her changes were not choices I wanted. The work of this book is dependant on no one but me.

Now I'll submit my manuscript to the editing department of my publishing company Outskirts Press, and when that process is over and I have made my changes, I'll send in the resulting draft for publication. I'm looking to May to have the book published and available to the public. Writing it has been bitter-sweet.

"No Veil" Begun

My first book is called IN THE PRESENCE OF ANGELS, A Return to Faith Through a Hawaiian Doorway, published on March 25, 2008. In this book I wished to promote the tenets of unity, peace, and love and to show that we can connect to our lived ones who have gone before us.

In my second book titled THERE IS NO VEIL, Aloha Is Forever, I wish to show that:

1. Living a life according to aloha is living a spiritual life.
2. Our angels are with us whenever we need them.
3. We need no special gifts to connect with our loved ones.
4. Our souls live on.
5. We should resolve disput4es as soon as we can and while we can.
6. The stars come to us, and we come from the stars.
7. There are no barriers that separate us from those who have gone before.
8. We can survive and live our lives after the passing of loved ones.

I have completed seven chapters and am working on the eighth. It is my hope that I can complete this book and present it for publication in one year.
